News and Events     Excavation 2018

Between late June and September it was back to the grind, the dust and the heat at the Bronze Age Minoan excavation at the Kephali, Sissi, Crete. After eight years as resident artist for the Belgian School Athens, Universit√© catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve, I have found that the environmental conditions on site can be somewhat restrictive - so there has been little chance for acrylic - but oil and watercolours are OK. Sketching remains my main preparation process and as a backup a little photography. I admit that my iPad plays an important role.

For the 2018 season I have been working on a large canvas reflecting a daily excavation landscape, and for which I have been using water soluble oil - in a way my commitment to protecting the enviroment since you are not using harmful chemcials.

It was a very successful excavation this year with an excellent team. A great bunch of people!
